Dr Dave Buckley (SAAO)
7th October 2002 - Seminar Room
"SALT: Southern Africa Large Telescope"
Abstract: Southampton University is one of the UK partners in a 30M US dollar project to build the largest telescope in the Southern Hemisphere. This instrument will be a multi-mirror system with an effective diameter of 11m modelled on the US HET instrument. This talk will be by the SALT Project Scientist who will review the project and report on the current status. He will also be looking for any input from us as to what kinds of science we hope to carry out with this powerful telescope when it comes on line in Dec 2004.
