"Probing the Gaseous Environment of Seyfert Galaxies - from kiloparsecs to light years"
Abstract:

Nuclear activity in galaxies has long been considered a curiosity in its own right but until recently the broader study of galaxy formation, structure and evolution has excluded AGN. This situation has changed dramatically w ith the realisation that the growth of supermassive black holes, evolution of galaxies and nuclear activity are intimately related. In this talk I will discuss the enigma of re-ignited dead quasars at the centres of nearby active Seyfert galaxies in the context of host galaxy environment and the search for AGN triggering and fuelling mechanisms.
