How to make discs around Be stars...and then make them go away too!
This talk will consider the fastest rotating stars on the main sequence -- the Be stars -- and discuss the observational evidence for the geometry of the circumstellar material around them. In particular I will discuss the equatorial discs of Be stars, which are likely to be present (partly) due to the rotation. Current ideas regarding the production of the disc will be explained, along with the "best bet" candidate. Whilst I will largely consider the production of the disc, the phases where the disc disappears will be touched on too.
