Newton International Fellowships

The Southampton astronomy group is seeking applications from candidates keen to apply for a Royal Society Newton International Fellowship in the 2026 applications round. This fellowship provides support for outstanding early career researchers based outside the UK to make a first step towards developing an independent research career in the UK.

The group can only support a limited number of candidates (one per sponsor) and there is a strict internal timeline to allow for administrative process completion. We invite applicants to reach out to potential sponsors by Feb 01, 2025. Should you wish assistance in identifying potential sponsors, you are welcome to reach out to the Head of Group, at the contact below.

This year, the Royal Society have implemented stricter eligibility criteria, which all applicants should check in detail here.

We are fully committed to promoting equity, diversity & inclusion, and we want our group to provide an open and inclusive environment where students and staff of all backgrounds can thrive and feel valued. For more details, see our ED&I page.

All prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to contact any of our members of staff to discuss the opportunities within the group, or directly to the Head of the Astronomy Group, Poshak Gandhi.
