Fellowship information

STFC Fellowships

The 2015/16 STFC call for proposals for the 5-year Ernest Rutherford Fellowships (ERFs) is available at http://www.stfc.ac.uk/funding/fellowships/ernest-rutherford-fellowship/. We welcome all enquiries about this fellowship - potential applicants should contact a member of staff in their research area to discuss their interest.

Although the formal STFC deadline is 24th September 2015, every institution is limited in the number of ERF applications it can support. If you would like to apply for an ERF through Southampton, please send your brief CV (about 2 pages), publication list, and a one-page outline proposal, all as a single PDF document, to Ian McHardy, I.M.Mchardy@soton.ac.uk, by 31st July 2015. We will let you know by mid-August whether we will be able to support your application.

STFC also encourages those returning after a career break or from working outside academic research ("Returner Fellowships") http://www.stfc.ac.uk/funding/fellowships/returner-fellowships/. This scheme runs in addition to the ERFs, and there are no quotas.

Royal Society Fellowships

The Royal Society runs various fellowship schemes for candidates from the EEA and Switzerland, and we welcome enquiries from potential applications about any of these. Please note that any application should be completed at least one week ahead of the Royal Society deadline to allow for university costings to be made. Potential applicants should contact a member of staff in their research area to discuss their interest.

The University Research Fellowships are for 5 years initially, but renewable for up to 8 years; deadline is 3rd September 2015. The Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowships are 4-year fellowships for candidates who would benefit from flexible support or working pattern; the scheme will open for applications in November. Newton International Fellowships are 2-year fellowships from non-UK scientists who would like to spend time researching at a UK institution; deadline 9th September 2015.

Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions

The Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions support a series of 2-3 year Fellowships from those within or from outside the EU; however you must currently be based outside the UK to be eligible. The deadline is 10th September 2015. Applicants are advised to make contact with a member of staff as soon as possible to allow the EU costings to be performed.
