Teaching / Tutoring activity:
-
2008, University of Amsterdam: co-tutoring (with Prof. M. van der Klis) of three undergraduate
students (G. ten Broeke, B. van Dam, J. Paijmans) of the University of Amsterdam for a bachelor
project. The students chose the project among those proposed to them by myself and several other
staff members of the Astronomical Institute. During the project, the students studied the Physics of
accretion under my direct supervision, with the focused task of searching and calculating possible
characteristic timescales of an accretion disc.
-
2010, University of Southampton: co-tutoring (with Dr. T. J. Maccarone) of an undergraduate stu-
dent (E. K. Panagoulie) of the University of Southampton for a 3rd year Summer Project. The stu-
dent chose the project among those proposed to her by myself and several other staff members of
the Astronomical Institute. During the project, the student learnt and applied standard timing tech-
niques, analyzing high-time resolution data from the NASA X-ray satellite RXTE. She studied
characteristic timing features (quasi-periodic oscillations) in the X-ray light curves of X-ray bina-
ries, and carried out a comprehensive analysis, learning both technical and strategical approaches.
